Ministers, negotiators, and civil society representatives from around the world will gather in Brasília on October 13–14 for the Preparatory Ministerial Meeting for the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (Pre-COP30). The event, hosted at the Brazil International Convention Center (CICB), aims to strengthen dialogue and align strategies ahead of COP30, which will take place this November in Belém, Pará.
Although not part of the official UNFCCC calendar, Pre-COP30 serves as a key platform for countries to discuss and coordinate positions on the most pressing global climate issues — including climate finance, energy transition, adaptation measures, and biodiversity protection.
Over the two-day meeting, the COP30 Presidency will lead plenary sessions, thematic discussions, and informal consultations to facilitate convergence on critical topics. The Presidency-elect is also expected to share updates on several major initiatives, such as the Action Agenda, the Baku to Belém Roadmap (developed under the COP29 Presidency), and the COP30 Leadership Circles — which include the Circle of Finance Ministers, the People’s Circle, the COP Presidents’ Circle, and the Global Ethical Stocktaking Circle.
As the global community looks toward Belém, the Pre-COP30 symbolizes the renewed focus on the Global South — a region historically central to the principles of sustainable development and climate cooperation. The meeting represents a decisive step in advancing collective commitments and setting the tone for a more ambitious and inclusive outcome at COP30.
